The NRA Personal Protection In The Home course is designed for law-abiding adults who wish to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential for the safe and effective use of a handgun for self-defense within the home. This course goes beyond basic firearms safety and focuses on practical defensive shooting skills and strategies. Students will learn defensive shooting techniques, the importance of mindset and awareness, safe storage and handling of firearms in the home, and the legal aspects of using force in self-defense. The course includes both classroom instruction and live-fire range exercises to reinforce safe gun handling, defensive accuracy, and decision-making under stress. Prerequisites: Participants must be experienced shooters, able to show mastery of basic firearm safety and shooting fundamentals. Completion of the NRA Basic Pistol Course or equivalent experience is recommended. A pre-course assessment may be required.
